About the Center

Turkey , whichis located between Europe and Asia , has been playing an important role in the cultural exchange between East and West. Since WWII,with its increasing influence in the Middle Eastern economy, politics and diplomacy, Turkey has become a significant player in the dynamics of the Middle Eastern scenario as well as an integral part of the world political configuration.

Against the very background, the Center for Turkish Studies at Shanghai Univesity is dedicated to academic research, aiming to promote the exchange and cooperation among Turkish research institutions at home and abroad. By conducting an in-depth study of Turkey’s politics, economy, culture, social development and foreign policy, the Center for Turkish Studies strives for a high-level research platform and think tank that provides expertise or professional advice in Turkey matters for individuals, societies, organizations and governments.

Research Fields

1.Turkey’s Contemporary Political and Social Studies

Focus on Turkey’s economic development, social structure, political parties, social thoughts, and social administration policy.

2.Turkey’s History, Culture and Religion Studies

Inquiry into Turkey’s historical development, cultural heritage, religion and social life for better understanding and command of Turkish history and culture.

3.Turkey’s InternationalPolicy and Sino-Turkey Relationship

Research on Turkey’s foreign policy and international strategy, in particular Turkey’s influence in West Asia, North Africa as well as the Islamic World; Research on the political, economic, cultural and diplomatic relations between China and Turkey

3.West Asia and North Africa Studies

Research on the past, present and future of politics, economy, culture and military affairs of West Asia and North Africa Region closely related to Turkey.
