About the Center

South Asia refers to the vast regionto the south ofHimalayas in Asia. The South Asian sub-continent comprises India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Maldives.South Asia and Indian Ocean are poised to play important roles in economic and security environment in the Asia and the World. Vibrant and emerging democracies, growing economies and home to major religions of the world, South Asia juxtapose culture, economy and politics. China and South Asia has a long history of connections and interactions.

This Center is dedicated to academic research on South Asian politics, economy, culture, social development, foreign policy and development trends. The Center also promotes international exchange and cooperation among various institutes, centers, and departments of South Asian countries and strives to become ‘center of academic excellence’ and well known think-tank to provide consultations and knowledge about South Asia to the government, organizations and individuals.

Research Fields

1.Contemporary Politics, Economic Development and Society in South Asia: It focuses on the contemporary political development, political party, social thought and development policies of countries of South Asia, such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

2.International Relations in South Asia: To study the relations and regional cooperation among South Asian countries, as well as the relations between South Asian countries and other regions, especially China, the United States, Russia and other major powers, as well as the regional and global security order.

3.A Comprehensive study of History, Culture and Religion in South Asia: In-depth study of the historical development of South Asia (including Indus Civilization), cultural inheritance, religious belief (Hinduism, Buddhism, Islamic, Sikhism, etc.) and social life, to understand and grasp the development characteristics and trends of South Asian countries.

4. Relations between China and South Asia: To study the political, economic & trade, cultural relation between China and South Asian countries, as well as China's image and influence in South Asia.
